The general director of Rural and Forestry Development, Federico García Izquierdo, today visited with the mayor of Ricote, Celedonio Moreno, works of extension and improvement of the base of the Forest Brigades Land of the municipality, provided with a rest area staff and kitchen, an office for the environmental officer in charge of the brigade, a store for tools and manual machines, toilets and space to host a firefighting vehicle and two light vehicles.
The investment involved a total of 87,414.79 euros in the first phase, to be followed by a second outer adequacy.
The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment, has been working on the consolidation of a network infrastructure that support the actions carried out in prevention and protection against forest fires in the region.
Among the infrastructures that allow the proper functioning of emergency operation in case of wildfire are the foundations sheltering forest land brigades.
These brigades are composed of eight people, six specialists working day, which are always accompanied by an environmental agent in the event of action by forest fire.
Currently the Region of Murcia has a total of 19 terrestrial forest brigades and 4 brigades of rapid intervention (3 people moving in 'pick-up', reducing response times in case of emergency) plus 3 helicopter transport brigades They are moving to the fire by helicopter.
Forest house La Calera
The CEO used his visit to Ricote to deal with the mayor on the administrative record for the transfer of private use of public good hostel called the Forest House of La Calera.
This house is owned by the region and is located in the Sierra de Ricote public forest within the Special Protection Area (SPA) and Site of Community Interest (SCI) Sierra de Ricote and La Navela.
In this space there is no infrastructure of public rural tourism, and information center, which is to use this house as a shelter forest, given the large number of people every year visit this area.
In this context, it is managing the temporary transfer of such forest house for rehabilitation and exploitation as shelter, in order to provide environmental education services that form to recipients in natural and cultural values ​​of this protected area.
