The general director, Pablo Fernandez, highlights the difficulty of the work for which "was necessary to provide materials and some of the machinery at the top of the mountain by a helicopter"
The 2,000 square meters of steel mesh installed, have a certified capacity to withstand thrusts of up to six tons per square meter of land
The Ministry of Agriculture and Water completed the rehabilitation of the main road at Cerro de la Solana de la Sierra de Ricote, and ensuring the slope.
These works have involved an investment of 157,000 euros co-financed with European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), and generated 52 working wages.
The director general of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, Pablo Fernández, said that in the autumn of 2007, there were landslides in the perimeter road that runs along the sunny side of the said Sierra, who blocked the traffic, with the risk in case of fire this area.
For this reason, the Department undertook the works in order to prevent landslides from the slope to the road, avoiding accidents in the area of forest and increase the level of security.
To do this we proceeded to remove the lumps of rock, cleaning the slope and place a mesh reinforced triple twist and a network of steel reinforcement and a means of bolts, to catch any future landslides.
Hard work
Pablo Fernández said that the work "have been technically difficult, as it was necessary to provide materials and some of the machinery at the top of the mountain by helicopter."
He also stressed that "the task required more time and investment was volatile solid drilling for the placement of steel anchors up to 12 meters in length along the 1.6 km total executed."
The 2,000 square meters of steel mesh installed, have a certified capacity to withstand thrusts of up to six tons per square meter of land, since "the mesh is made with materials of last generation and has the highest current technical services sector stabilization, "he said Fernandez.
